Biggest strike yet to enter 4th week

The DOLE is convening this morning the management and union of  Philip Morris Fortune Tobacco Corp. in an attempt to resolve the country's biggest strike to date. The mediation is set at 9:00 am today at a restaurant near the Parang, Marikina factory.

Workers of the strikebound cigarette firm are having a mass meeting and jam session from 6:00-10:00 pm tonight at the picketline in Parang, Marikina.

The two week-long strike at the cigarette firm has cost the company around two billion in lost production. The strike started last September 28.

Workers unrest is rising with a series of labor strikes in recent months and the strike at the leading cigarette firm is the biggest to date.

Workers have set up picketlines in its Marikina and Vigan factories. The union has slammed management for attempting to bring in scabs to operate the factory.
