The pre-trial
chamber of the International Criminal Court (ICC) was correct in considering
Duterte a “flight risk” in denying the former President his plea for interim
release.
Duterte, even when
relieved of his most powerful position in the Philippines, remains a symbol of
fear and tyranny, while her daughter, VP Sara, extends this dynastic power into
reality not only for being the second in command but also as the main protagonist
of President Marcos.
Keeping Duterte at
close watch by the ICC serves the country’s interest well. The next thing we
should expect is for the ICC to proceed with the trial forthwith.
